The Igboland

Ever heard of the Igbo land? It is the south-eastern part of Nigeria.The indigenous home of the Igbo people.It is culturally divided into several sub-groups:Anioma,Ngwa,Edda,Egbebu,Ezaa,Ibeku,Ohuhu,Omuna and Ekpeye.The Igbo  land is also composed of Abia State,Anambra State,Ebonyi State,Enugu State, Imo State and minor parts of Delta,Rivers and Benue States. The Igbo Settlement dates back to 4500BC with the Northern Igbo Kingdom of Nri being a prove of Igboland's culture,customs and religious practices. The Igboland is part of southern Nigeria protectorate and was amalgamated with the Northern Nigeria protectorate in 1914 by Lord Lugard.

      Ex-governor James Ibori has been released from jail despite the attempts by the UK government to detain him.He was due for release on Tuesday having agreed to be deported after serving half of his 13 years sentence.However,the UK Home Secretary Amber Rudd do not intend to deport Ibori to Nigeria until he hand over "the proceeds of crime " which is over $22 million. A statement made by a high court judge was that the attempts to detain the ex-governor of Nigeria oil rich Delta State were quite extraordinary.       Ibori who is also a former DIY store cashier was jailed for fraud totalling nearly £50million in April 2012.

      Nigeria Costums  has confiscated 102 bags of "plastic rice"smuggled into the country by unscrupulous businessmen who wants to sell it in this festive season-According to a senior costum officer in Lagos. He said after preliminary analysis,"that plastic rice after boiling it,shows how sticky the rice was and only GOD knows what would have happened if our people consumed it". Investigations are underway to establish how much of the rice has being circulated and how best to retrieve the rice so as to safeguard the health of the nation and also punish the culprits.Mr Mamodu further stated that the rice is branded as "Best Tomatoe Rice".       It should be noted that ther was food scandal in China after it emerged that some rice were made from plastic pellets.

          The Gambia long serving president Yahya Jammeh after losing election to property developed Adama Barrow,has sworn that he will react to any attempts by regional leaders to force him out of power. He made the following statement when he was addressing members of African Bar Association-"Let them enforce it today and see.What are they waiting for?I am a man of peace but does not mean that I will not defend my country...courageously,patriotically and win". He rejected calls of West Africa leaders including Nigeria and Liberia,adding "who are they to tell me to leave my country".       However,ECOWAS has recognized Mr Barrow as president and will undertake all the necessary actions to enforce the result of the election.

      Roshani Tiruwa,a 15 year old girl who was banished to a poorly ventilated shed because she was menstruating dies.The girl suffocated after lighting a fire to keep her warm in a hut.       "Chhaupadi", an ancient Hindu  practice -women who are menstruating or have just given birth are seen as impure.This practice was banned by the Napalese Government in 2005,but still continues in the remote western areas.Her body was found by her father last weekend in a stone and mud hut in village of Gajara,in Achham district west of Kathmandu. Some of theses communities believe that they suffer a misfortune such as natural disaster unless menstruating women are secluded.These women are restricted from taking some certain foods and are placed in a hut which some may share with cattles.
